Friezland Band was born into the Brass Band country 25 years ago in the heart of Saddleworth, the home of the Whit Friday band contests and 100 years of tradition.

It started life as a youth band of the Friezland Church, close to Greenfield, Uppermill and Dobcross, all with bands of their own.

Parents brought their children to the band, stayed to listed, became hooked and joined in.

The youth spirits live on in the very active training band which feeds players into the senior band.

Friezland remains a family band, a blend of young and the older players, with an essential group of enthusistic supporters, or "etceteras" as they are fondly known, that helps to get the band on the road.

We entertain at concerts, compete against other bands in contests, and travel into Europe, supporting charities, and playing simply for pleasure.
