Band History...

It was whit Friday 1982 and spirits were high. As the evenings proceedings drew to a close, members of Friezland Church pondered the idea of forming a band linked to the church - so the seed was planted! Since its inception in 1982 the band has gone from strength to strength.

In its 25 year history the band has travelled extensively, including trips to Germany, Switzerland, Northern Ireland, France and Menorca. The band has a special relationship with Saddleworth Rotary Club and The Rotary Club of Menorca, both whom have provided assistance when Friezland toured the island, raising funds for local charities.

Friezland is also renowned for its work with charitable organisations throughout Saddleworth and the surrounding area, and has upwards of 10 such concerts a year. Additionally the band has a busy concert calendar aimed at a wide and varied audience.

By the late 1980's, the band had decided to take contesting more seriously, competing in national and local competitions. Friezlands best ever contest performance was gaining 2nd place at the Northwest area 4th section in 1999; taking the band to the national finals held in Nottingham.
